Jamie and Jordy are celebrating their joint birthday on Sunday the 20th of November, which is also Mexican Independence day. There will be a pinnate, sombreros, poncho’s, big mo’s  and random mixed teams, with strong teams broken up by a veto process.

Bennet of Fixie GC knocked up an excellent poster (as always) for the mad hype beast.
This should be a great day and a chance to dress as ridiculously as possible in mexican garb.

Mexican Polo Tourny

Jamie (of MPS fame) just posted this on the Brisbane Hardcourt Bike Polo facebook page:

Sunday the 20th of November [at the Musgrave park polo courts]. Come celebrate Jordan and my birthdays at our Mexican themed polo tournament, rego from 11, starts at midday. Teams will be drawn randomly, super teams will be vetoed so as to assure a mix of skills. $5 per player rego, winning team takes all. There will be refreshments and a blindfolded piñata joust. Flyer to come.

This style of tourny is alway loads of fun and the theme is perfect for the weather we have been having recently. Cant wait.

Finn says Thanx

Recently two close friends of mine went through the worst ordeal parents can go through. Their son Fin was diagnosed with cancer at eighteen months old. Thankfully he is now in remission and Duggy, his dad, is raising money in the Ride to Conquer Cancer.

More from Duggy:

Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer for Finn and his buddies.

finn Finn says Thanx

My name is Duggy and with the support of my partner Rachel and our familys, friends and the amazing team at the Royal Childrens Hospital in Brisbane our little boy Finn is currently in remission after our battle with cancer.

Finn was diognosed with cancer when he was 18 months old and after extensive Chemo therapy, hospital stays, scans and surgery he has been declared cancer free. This amazing achievement would not have been possible without the financial contributions from you, the community.

So now that were not all in hospital 3 days a week it’s time for me to try and get some back for all the other little buddies and their families out there going through the same thing. Finn says Thanx…

The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, is a cycling journey throughout Queensland scenic countryside that I?m embarking on to fight cancer. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!

Contribute to this history-making event with a donation. Funds raised in The Ride to Conquer Cancer will support breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, a worldwide leader in cancer research and discovery and one of the largest research institutes in the southern hemisphere.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hell’s Belle’s Portraits

Some beautiful portraits were taken at the Hell’s Belle’s tournament by Leo Joseph Williams, it is an excellent way to show the individuality of polo players and to connect spectators to participants.

Brisbane Hardcourt’s own polo queen Erin (PQ) Giuliani look fabulous in her Look Mum No Hands jersey. Well done to her team The Tornadoes for a well deserved fifth in the tournament.

Cold War Bench Minor Results

A late update, but the East vs. West Bench Minor was a great success. So much so we will be holding regular monthly tournaments from now on.

The court was divided at three o’clock into East (Red, captain- Bennnett) and West (Blue, captain- Ali), with a mesh Berlin wall set up to divide the teams on the side line. The tournament was four fifteen minutes “Chukkers”.

After an hour of play the Cold War ended in a tie. Most of us thought this to be a fitting end and the capitans felt no need to have a tie breaker round.

I made the silly mistake of structuring the tournament to tally goals at the end of each chukker, as opposed to tallying the goals over the four chukkers as is common with most bench minors.

The final goal count was:

East (RED)     West (Blue)

10                   16

Thanks to the Brisbane / GC polo crew for such a large happy turnout and the captains, Ali and Bennett, for being great leaders and brilliant strategists. Thanks also to Bennett of FixieGC for the photos, go have a look at his event recap for a more detailed (and biased!!) account.

Hell’s Bell’s

Its been a while since the last post, so here is some international news.

hells belles banner Hells Bells

The first anual Hell’s Bell’s starts today in london. Hell’s Bell’s is a ladies majority (not only) bike polo tournament similar to Ladies Army in The States. It will run October 15th and 16th. Erin our official Polo Queen of BNE Hardcourt has been helping organise and will be competing over the next few days. Good luck PQ and do us proud!

From LHBPA:

Hell’s Belles, vol. 1 is the first annual ladies’ bike polo tournament to be held in London.

This year, our theme is ladies’ majority. The LLHBPC, in valuing the ‘mixed feel’ of throw-ins and broader tourneys, are seeking to encourage the continued rapid growth of women in bike polo.

So, whilst ALL girl teams are welcome (and cheered!), the ‘2/3s ladies’ rule’ applies to this tournament. As long as your team has a female majority (i.e. 2 of 3), you can enter. If you are 2 girls, who wish to form a team, yet unable to find another girl, or 2 girls who plays in an established ‘mixed’ team (i.e. two girls, one boy), registration is open to you also.

The promotional video is EPIC:

Just a reminder, registrations for the Taupo Tapout close on 31st of October. So get on it, scrimp and save and get your self trim for the tourny of the year!

More info from Taupo Bike Polo:

We had applied for funding to help players from out side NZ’s Nth island get to our tournament. We didn’t get as much as we wanted so we have had to pull our flight subsidizes and focus it else where. The focus now is on providing transport from Auckland Airport and back. We have vans and a trailer on standby to get you to the “Tap-Out”. This includes fuel. The only consideration is when people are flying back. Some are leaving earlier than others.

Jane at the House of Travel can still find you all flights, and from what I’ve seen shes been able to get some great prices for people wanting to travel.

Few other things:

We aren’t charging an entry fee to the tournament, but we would like people to purchase a souvenir “Tap-Out” t-shirt with their team name printed across the back in a preferred team colour. (Can i get sizes as well, thank you) Costs to be confirmed but shouldn’t be that much.

Because of this fact ENTRIES CLOSE MONDAY 31st OCTOBER.

Accommodation will be at a premium due to the fact there will be an extra 20’000 people in town, so we are billeting people with friends. If you require any specific needs please let me know.
