Brisbane Hardcourt Bike Polo League (BHBPL) is a league organised by the players for the players.

Hardcourt bike polo originated in Seattle in 1998 and Brisbane has played regular Throw-up (or Pick up) on Sundays since 2008.

Throw-up (or Pick-up) is the method used to divide teams before a game. Players throw their mallets into a pile, when six mallets are on the ground the game is divided by throwing the mallets into two teams at random.

Sunday Throw-ups in Brisbane are relaxed in nature, it is a social event as much a sporting event. Players hope to maintain the Sunday tradition by moving fast-paced competitive polo to the BHBPL earlier in the day, so as to keep the Sunday afternoon play inclusive and relaxed. This is done by allowing a maximum of two League games played on Sundays after the start of Throw-up games at 2pm.

The league aims to improve competitive play and train players, new and experienced, in tournament level polo, it is played on a weekly basis with teams organising play and referees amongst themselves.

Bike polo is played on any bike by people of all ages, genders and fitness levels. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to have a go. New players may borrow all necessary equipment including bikes on game day from other players.

The BHBPL is grateful to be sponsored by Gear Shop BrisbaneBO gearUgees espresso4zzz 102.1 fm community radio and High Gear Racing.
